Loving in Maturity: not everything, not anything

There is a fairly common internal conflict when we reach a certain stage of life: believing that in love there are only two paths.

Or we give ourselves completely, with plan, coexistence, agreements, future and calendar included. Or we close ourselves in the name of peace, independence and that tranquility that we had so hard time building.

But real life, almost always, happens in the middle.

And that medium deserves to be explored.

We are no longer here to repeat

At this moment of life, no one comes "blank" to a bond.

We arrive with history sometimes too much ... With marriages or separations. With children, mourning, difficult decisions, learning, scars and also with a lot of accumulated wisdom.

We already know that love is not always enough. We already understood that having chemistry does not guarantee peace. And we also learned that being accompanied is not much use if a part of you has to disappear to sustain the relationship.

That is why, many times, we enter love with a curious mixture: desire to connect, but also desire to protect ourselves.

And there two extremes appear.

The "all or nothing" or fear?

There are people who, as soon as they know someone, they need to know where everything is going.

What we are. What are we going to build. What place do I occupy in your life? What intention do you have? What will happen next?

And beware, it's not bad to want clarity. At this age, no one wants to waste time or lend their heart to weird games.

But sometimes, without realizing it, we turn the bond into an interview of the soul.

Before enjoying a coffee, we are already evaluating if that person fits into the final project. Before listening to it calmly, we already want guarantees. Before feeling, we are already negotiating the future.

And love, when born under so much pressure, usually runs out of air.

Much influence on this form of relationship comes from society, from the same family. Since women are often asked, that the bond has form, name and destination. That they don't "waste time", that they look for something serious, that they aspire to a formal relationship.

Men, on the other hand, are often advised the opposite: that they do not complicate themselves, that they take care of their freedom, that they do not go too deep.

Love without stopping choosing yourself

Loving in maturity has something deeply liberating.

We no longer need to run after the traditional libretto. We no longer have to prove anything to anyone. We are no longer obliged to repeat formulas that may never have done us any good.

We can love in another way:

Calmly. With limits. With tenderness. Letting life take its own course. With desire, but also with awareness. With the desire to share, but without giving up our own life.

Because loving should not ask us to stop being who we are.

Healthy love does not require getting lost in the other. Invites the presence of the other and with the other.

To reflect

Perhaps the underlying question is not whether you want a formal relationship or whether you prefer to be alone.

Maybe the question is:

Am I available to live a bond without imposing a rigid form on it from the beginning?

Or even:

Can I afford to meet someone without running, without running away and without demanding absolute guarantees?

Because between the "everything" and the "nothing" there is a large living space.

A space where you talk. Where you sit. Where you discover. Where two people can meet without ceasing to belong to themselves.

And you, where are you today?

¿Are you still trapped in the demand of "all or nothing"? Are you looking to follow the trend of networks of being a stoic that love is no longer interested in? Or are you allowing yourself to explore what can be born when we let a bond simply be?

Sometimes, loving in maturity is not about finding immediate certainties. It is about learning to be present without betraying us in the attempt.
