Kierkegaard raised an uncomfortable idea: any choice we make will bring with it some kind of regret. Each decision opens a path, but also closes others. Perhaps one of the biggest traps of adult life is to look at the paths we leave behind and start imagining them as if they had been better.

At this stage of life, a contradiction appears. On the one hand, we seek more sincere relationships, free of Appearances and expectations that perhaps marked our youth. On the other hand, the fear of being hurt or judged can make us more cautious and lead us to take refuge in the routine or in an emotional distance that seems safe.
