The Paradox of Becoming Visible

There is a subtle but constant dynamic that I often observe in conversations between mature women, and it is the way in which the social gaze transforms their demands as we turn years. We live in a culture that, for decades, has accustomed women to measuring their presence according to the attention they generate in others. It seems that to occupy a legitimate place in public space, to be heard or to be considered eligible, the unwritten rule requires uninterrupted proof that it is willing to be observed.

Shorter. More adjusted. More exposed...

You can still hear in everyday environments those inherited phrases that are said almost as jokes or as supposed well-intentioned advice: "what is not exhibited, is not sold." The idea still persists that if a woman does not dress in a certain way, if she does not project a deliberately striking intention, she is sending a signal of disinterest or abandonment. It is assumed that to open the door to new relationships, affection or romance, it is mandatory to send a silent message outwards: I am still available, you can still desire me, I still fit the norm.

This logic commodifies the affective bond and reduces it to a simple dynamic of supply and demand. Under this traditional and deeply exhausting approach for the same society that promotes it, vertical relationships are built: Structures where the man's gaze is located in a higher position of power, evaluating, qualifying and judging, while the woman is below, trying to fit in and validate her attractiveness so as not to "be left out of the market." Faced with the fear of invisibility or rejection, many women feel pushed to overexpose themselves, showing more than they would like just to remain in force in an implicit competition where it would seem that the image is the only currency of exchange.

However, when a woman decides to break with that logic and begins to dress for herself some with sobriety, with fluid fabrics, with the comfort of those who choose their clothes according to their own well-being and not according to the expectations of others, a phenomenon occurs as curious as it is revealing: the look accustomed to consumption simply crosses it.

It becomes invisible....

It is at this point where the woman over fifty years old is trapped in an absurd contradiction. If she does not expose her body under the usual parameters of visual consumption, society ignores her. But if you choose discretion, comfort or a serene style, the environment immediately concludes that it has renounced its affective or sensual dimension. As if when crossing a certain age barrier, vitality, intimacy and desire should be filed in a drawer.

This way of pigeonhing the female body leads us to an inevitable question: at what point do we let the idea be consolidated that attraction depends on how many centimeters of skin are left in sight? This perspective carries a historical weight, built on societies where the value of women was measured by their capacity for exchange, their usefulness or their role within the home. Perpetuating that same logic today is not only unsustainable, but completely disconnected from the reality of today's woman.

The transit towards relationships of conscious bond

The real leap in society will occur when we choose to inhabit horizontal relationships. A horizontal link does not operate under the transaction of supply and demand; it does not require submitting to emotional auctions or overexposing yourself to be chosen. In a horizontal relationship, two adults look at each other head-on, on an equal footing, from authenticity, autonomy and mutual respect.

In this type of relationship, attraction is not born from a package made to please the observer. It is born, mainly, from the coincidence in fundamental values, ethical principles and a shared vision on how to inhabit the world. Two accomplished adults are not looking for a complement to fill voids or a figure to exhibit, but a conscious company with whom to share the path. Seduction ceases to be based on visual stimulation and moves on physical attraction, emotional calm, deep conversation and mutual admiration.

The elegance of serenity and own style

Serenity is not synonymous with disinterest, and sobriety is not a silent retreat from life. A woman can wear loose pants and inhabit a deep inner strength. You can wear a skirt below the knee and project a magnetic, sober and resounding elegance. You can be over fifty or sixty years old and enjoy a fully conscious, rich and active affective, emotional and sexual life.

True sensuality has never resided in the hem of a garment or in the adjustment of a fabric. Authentic sensuality dwells in the posture, in autonomy, in the calm of the voice and in the security of those who do not need to overact their presence to revalidate their place in the world. It is something that is felt from within and that is transmitted naturally, without effort.

We have educated the collective look to react like clones, losing the ability to perceive the strength of each person and enjoy their own style.

When the demand to please others is finally dissolved, the woman does not disappear or turn off: the filter of others with which they intended to measure her is simply clarified. And it is precisely there, in that apparent invisibility in the eyes of social haste, where the most real and firm form of presence is conquered.

A presence that does not ask for permission, that does not seek to be exhibited and that is enjoyed in absolute freedom.

And paradoxically, that's where a new challenge is revealed: that a new generation of men over 50 arise who do not enter through the door of visual noise that evaluates and she seeks to please but through another door that leads to a narrower path. Men willing to know in depth, to build something real, who understand that the most powerful sensuality is not announced but discovered. Men who are up to a woman who already knows who she is .

Thank you for your time and for getting to this point, which phrase resonates most with you? I would love to see it in comments.
